Protein by body weight on GLP-1

During GLP-1 or tirzepatide weight loss, the 2025 joint advisory discusses 1.2–1.6 g of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. The tables multiply that band by body weight. They are a published range, not a prescription and not a muscle guarantee.

Source: Mozaffarian et al., 2025 joint advisory (ACLM, ASN, Obesity Medicine Association, The Obesity Society). PMC12304835. The band they discuss during weight reduction is 1.2–1.6 g/kg/day. Other expert groups have used 1.2–1.5 g/kg. If a clinician already set a gram cap — especially in kidney disease — use that number. Do not routinely go above about 2 g/kg without medical advice. Actual versus adjusted body weight is still debated; these tables use the weight in the first column.

Daily grams are body weight in kilograms times 1.2 and times 1.6, rounded to the nearest gram. Per meal divides that daily total by three and rounds again. That split matches the card’s three meals. It is not a leucine measurement. The card then picks a working start inside the band from drug, dose week, and appetite. Those increments are product start rules, not a new clinical threshold. How much protein on GLP-1 explains the difference. Protein without resistance training is not a lock-muscle protocol, and nothing here measures muscle.
